Every time we suddenly stop seeing people with whom we have been together for many days, it affects us deeply. Parting is death in miniature, it is said.
Does parting then signify a transition from being to non-being? But it is only the senses that are no longer party to the presence of the beloved. We no longer see and hear him, can no longer hold out our hand to him. Why does it comfort us so little to know that the departed is really ‘still there’ – just not before our eyes?
Parting remains parting, but we must experience each farewell as a link in a long chain, in which parting and reunion are bound together. It is this bond which gives the chain its strength. Will be back when you need me..
