ARRIVING

One can only arrive if one has departed. The pressure and the expectation which surround one’s setting – off can only be absorbed when one arrives.

That is precisely the point of arriving; to interpret our life anew. The challenge consists not only in relearning all our little everyday maneuvers, but also in thinking over the fundamental decisions of our lives. Arriving grants us a certain freedom, in that nothing is yet fixed. We can choose. We can engage anew with people, facts, values, or we can turn away from them.

If we extend this period of arrival for as long as possible, then we can maintain this freshness of perception, we can live creatively. That is demanding, for the momentum of joy and expectation may not always carry us. Yet this drawn – out arrival is more intense and more worth living than the patterns of an everyday life on which we no longer reflect.
